The latest round of innovation from Cutting Edge (Pvt) Ltd, Wood-Mizer’s dealer in Zimbabwe, sees it rolling out new service delivery benchmarks for the sawmilling and forestry sectors in that country.
Wood-Mizer and Cutting Edge’s strong association in Zimbabwe continues to gain momentum.
As Wood-Mizer’s official dealer in Zimbabwe since 2009, Cutting Edge is a leading distributor to the sawmilling, forestry, silviculture, horticulture and agricultural sectors in Zimbabwe.
Based in Msasa, Harare, Cutting Edge’s 20 dealerships span Zimbabwe.
The Chimanimani, Mutare, and Bulawayo locations focus on forestry and sawmilling specifically because of nearby forestry activities and new indigenous timber concessions recently opening up.
Cutting Edge distributes a suite of brands to the sectors through these branches with Wood-Mizer and Husqvarna integral parts of Cutting Edge’s total offer available to industry in Zimbabwe.
Cutting Edge’s latest branch, which opened in Juliasdale in October 2022 in partnership with Intraburry Pvt Ltd, redefines the service delivery levels now available to sawmillers and foresters in Zimbabwe.
Located in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe’s Manicaland Province, the new branch in the shadow of Mount Nyanga lies in the middle of Zimbabwe’s most productive forestry and sawmilling areas.
The innovation that underpins the new branch is set to unleash a spate of benefits for the sawmilling and forestry sectors in the area.
The first stroke of genius is that the former kiosk has now been transformed at minimal costs into a modern service hub with contemporary features and sharply improved service delivery capacity.
Cutting Edge, as the distributor that stocks the branch and Intraburry that manages it, used a discarded shipping container as the shell for the new outlet. Exterior timber cladding transforms the container further and hints at the improved service levels available to sawmillers and foresters.
The branch is fully stocked with technical services and machine sales on tap, plus bandsaw blade sharpening and setting and an on-site technician to service sawmills and chainsaws in the area.
The resharp service on offer at the branch provides an affordable, and quick and easy solution for sawmillers to return their bandsaw blades to factory standards.
It saves time and money with sawmillers now resharpening instead of buying new blades. The short turnaround time on blades also reduces downtime with more time to cut accurately sawn product increasing profits.
The branch’s proximity to the sawmilling and forestry hubs in the area can potent is also set to spearhead the future growth of the sawmilling and forestry sectors.
Speaking to Cutting Edge’s General Manager, Alec Philp, he said they’re delighted with the outcome of the new branch.
“We’ve now got a template that allows us to roll branches out across Zimbabwe that looks good, and most importantly also gives the sectors the service they deserve.
“There are also natural synergies between Husqvarna and Wood-Mizer. For the branches with a timber focus, the two brands will serve as the lynchpin for what we stock and the services we offer. We can then adapt this offer elsewhere to give our other brands exposure,” Alec says.
Wood-Mizer Africa’s Managing Director and Regional Sales Director, Bruce Husi congratulated Cutting Edge on the new branch and how this can strengthen both companies’ competitiveness in Zimbabwe.
“Cutting Edge is an exceptional team we’re proud to have as business partners. They continue to set new benchmarks that we’re happy to duplicate across Africa,” Bruce Husi said.
